have their hatches sealed by Chinese Customs.

Art. 8. Foreign goods carried to non-open ports in Kwangtung as under Arts. 5 and 6 may pay import and transit duties to Customs before departure and must report at Customs sub-office agreed upon under Art. 4.

Art. 9.

Goods transiting the Colony from one treaty port to another under Customs documents shall maintain their original status, provided Customs have right of supervision while in transit without landing or transhipment in the waters of the Colony, and that goods land ed pending transmission by sea or railway and goods brought by railway for transmission by sea to be placed in bonded warehouses agreed upon between the Government and the Chinese Custome.

Art. 10,

Ports of entry for merchandise, Including livestock, to be selected in consulta- tion with Customs, to prevent smuggling.

Art. 11. Co-operation in controlling traffic In intoxicating liquor, opium, opium compounds, morphine, tobacco, arms and munitions of war.

Art. 12.

Government of Hongkong to collect, as far as conditions of a free port admit, statistics of import and export.

Art. 13.

Office and warehouse accommodation for examination and storage of goods carried by Canton-Lowloon Railway and for the payment of duties thereon to be provided at reasonable rates by Government of Hongkong. Duties to be collected by the Chinese Customs under certain general conditions specified in this article.

Art. 14. Goods the subject of false declarations to be seized on behalf of the Chinese Customs.

Both Governments will issue necessary ordinances or edicts to enforce the agreement.

Agreement to be in force five years, subject to revision by mutual consent at any time. Six months notice of termination to be given, failing which to be continued from year to year. During duration of the Agreement, Commissioner of Customs to be British.
